Around Tröllaskagi

nature, culture and history trip

This trip starts from Akureyri town. We’ll start by driving over the mountain road in Öxnardalur valley, to one of the most amazing sites on the Tröllaskagi Peninsula, Hjaltadalur valley.

There stands the Hólar Cathedral, a bishop’s seat from the medieval and historic times, along with a beautiful turf house, surrounded by amazing nature. From Hólar, we drive to Hofsós village and visit the old Canadian fishing harbour and beautiful houses built during the occupation in the second world war. There is also a fantastic view to the three islands out on Skagafjörður bay.

From Hofsós it time to head out again. This time we will drive to Siglufjörður, the herring town. On the way, you will have opportunities for amazing photography in this stunning nature, well worth the stop. When we arrive in Siglufjörður we’ll take a good stop for lunch break and to get to know the history of that town a little better while enjoying what this beautiful area has to offer.

After our time in Siglufjörður it time to get going, and now it is time to drive to Árskógssandur, a small fishing village with an amazing view over Eyjafjörður bay and Hrísey island. There we’ll stop for more than just the view! Árskógssandur is the first local microbrewery in Iceland, and home to the lager Kaldi. There we will take a moment to enjoy a little presentation from the brewery, and enjoy a cold one.

Afterwards, it is time to drive back to Akureyri and have a cosy evening in the shadow of Súlur peak. Enjoy all the hidden trails the north has to offer! Check the booking availability by choosing a date.

This is a marvelous trip around north Iceland, you get to see the old profitable harbour, and small but sweet and lonely places, where you can breathe the peace and calm that surrounds Iceland. Is the perfect way to close a trip of contrasting landscapes and weather. Full of history, tipical towns and a guide beyond kind that will answer any question.
